Electrical Choke and applications

Electrical choke is a coil or Inductor. When someone can't breathe we say person is choke means flow of air is stopped. Same working principle is for electrical choke, Some energy which we want to choke or prevent from flowing to circuit.


Characteristics of Choke:

1- It store electrical energy in a form of magnetic field.

2- Resistance of choke coil is very low, therefore no power loss in circuit. 

3- Inductive reactance changes with change in frequency, It is directly proportional 

    XL= 2πFL

4- Choke coil may produce Electromagnetic Interference due to continuously changing in current.

Applications of Choke:

1-The main function choke coil is it allows flow of Direct current or low-frequency Alternating Current and to block the high-frequency Alternating Current.

2- Choke coils are used in electronic circuits to reduce Electromagnetic Interference.

3- Choke coils are used in power supply circuits such as voltage regulators, rectifier circuits, inverter circuits, etc.

4- Choke coils are used with sensitive  cables and connectors (Data transfer) to reduce noise and interferences.

5- Audio frequency choke coils are used in audio systems.

6- Choke coils used in Protection Circuit it won't allow sudden increase and decrease of current in circuit.
